The famous Camaro from the 1985 teen comedy movie Better Off Dead staring John Cusack is the typical “All American Boy Next Door Muscle Car”. This legendary classic year of the Camaro is our top pick this week for Market Finds.
The 1967 Camaro was originally produced as a pony car to compete against the Ford Mustang. The Pony Cars were a group of cars similar in rank that were coined “Pony Cars” by Car Life Magazine editor Dennis Shattuck. Produced in the 1960’s and offering an affordable, sporty, and stylish American image to the ever growing younger population. Among the Pony Cars are the Plymouth Barracuda, Ford Mustang, Pontiac Firebird, Chevrolet Camaro, Mercury Cougar, and final contender was the Dodge Challenger in 1970.
The Chevrolet Camaro was produced for four generations before production ended in 2002. Then a new style of the fifth generation was brought back in 2009. The first generation production of the Chevrolet Camaro was 1967-1969 and available as a 2-door coupe or convertible. Choices for engines varied from 230 cu. in. straight 6 all the way up to 396 V8. The Camaro shares most of it’s components with the Pontiac Firebird even though they are both different cars.
And, we can’t forget an original commercial advertising the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro. Notice the baby not in a car seat – wow, things sure have changed.
